Anthology of Darkness

Anthology of Darkness

Langgeng, a 10-year-old mute child, lives in a dilapidated village on the edge of a railway track, struggling to support his seriously ill father. He is cared for by a prostitute named Kartini (35 years old), a friend of Langgeng's mother. Langgeng's mother disappeared mysteriously when he was just a baby. As he grows older, Langgeng becomes aware of his mother's absence and tries to find her using a worn-out photograph he carries with him every day. In his daily life, Langgeng sells newspapers and snacks made by Kartini, all the while holding onto the photograph of his missing mother, hoping to reunite with her someday. During his search, Langgeng encounters many people who show him kindness and affection, especially the residents of the rundown village who know about his mother and father's fate. From drug dealers, prostitutes, and thugs to a caring gay couple, they all sympathize with Langgeng's plight. Anthology of Darkness is a compilation of stories that revolves around Langgeng's quest to find his mother, alongside tales of a gay couple, drug dealers, and prostitutes, all of which shed light on the questions that haunt Langgeng about his background, his mother, his father, and the people around the squalid village.
