Tangible Light is a documentary funded by crowdfunding platform Voordekunst.nl on fine visual artist Jan Mankes (1889-1920). This exceptional artist makes you see the world around you as new. As it were he makes the invisible visible and the silence audible.
In this documentary we follow ten Mankes’ adapts and connoisseurs. Visual artists, theologians, museum directors, art historians and a poet/author. The words are interchanged with atmosphere images from Eerbeek (Gelderland) and Oranjewoud (Heerenveen, Friesland) and surroundings. Here Jan Mankes lived for a long time and made his most work.
The documentary is thematic, not chronological structured. Main themes are: life and work of Mankes in a nutshell, his specific way of working and especially his stillness and soulfulness.
Jan Mankes work seems realistic on the surface. He wanted to show in a natural way, what he really wanted to reveal: the inner world.
