Paige sits in a hospital waiting room with her stepfather, Bobby, a warm-but-broken man who suffers from bipolar disorder. When Bobby's name is called, he reluctantly heads back with the nurses to have a session of electro-shock therapy. As he's being prepped, Paige thinks back to her childhood, when Bobby's different view of life was inspiring to her. Back in the present, Paige feels she's made a terrible mistake in bringing Bobby in for treatment. She breaks into the procedure room just as it begins, and squares off with the well-meaning (but narrow-minded) doctor. She stands up for Bobby and, with the help of the nurses, gets him out of the hospital. It seems like the right decision, but as they approach the car in the parking lot, Bobby's behavior leaves Paige to question whether or not she's made the right decision. The film poignantly ends with a dedication to the man upon which the story was inspired.
